ABOUT

Pianist and composer George Kahn is one of the few living jazz artists who captures the West Coast sound of the 1950s and 60s. Drawing inspiration from legendary figures like Dave Brubeck, Ramsey Lewis, Joe Sample, Vince Guaraldi, and Wynton Kelly, Kahn's music possesses a contemporary edge while staying true to the spirit of jazz.
His performances range from instrumental "hard-bop" bands to the vocal group Jazz & Blues Revue, featuring Courtney Lemmon, Gina Saputo and Crystal Starr.
Kahn's discography boasts a wide range of impressive works, including the chart-topping "DreamCatcher," released by the George Kahn Quartet in 2020.

Now George and the Jazz & Blues Revue invite you to their HOLIDAY SOIREE, an album of jazz and blues holiday tunes to brighten your holiday season for 2024.

The impact of Kahn's music is not limited to the world of jazz, however. In addition to his ten albums, his compositions have been prominently featured in popular TV shows and advertisements.

Kahn’s passion for music is matched by his commitment to ending homelessness in Los Angeles. Since 2010, his efforts with PATH Ventures have raised over $950,000 in support of affortable housing across California. Recognized by the City of Los Angeles for his contributions, Kahn’s legacy of talent and philanthropy continues to shine through both his music and his advocacy.

  • “Occasionally reminiscent of Dave Brubeck, … (George Kahn) deserves credit for his continuing exploration of the growing number of alternative delivery channels available to jazz artists who have not yet made a major-label connection.”

    - Don Heckman, LA Times, April 2020

  • “OK, we are sickened by the amount of fun these guys are having. What's the matter with desolate guilt-ridden music? Well, to tell you the truth, it sucks, so here we bring you some brassy jazz that wipes the cool off the mirror and hazes it up with something incredibly hot.”

    - MP3.com review of Freedom Vessel , September 2001

  • “Pianist George Kahn is a player who is making the most out of the Southern California scene. (…Compared To What?) is a bracing advance by the gifted pianist, who has slowly but surely created a distinctive jazz identity separate from his thriving career as a composer for television.”

    - Andrew Gilbert, AllAboutJazz.com October 2004

  • “Kahn states that 'each of my albums features a wide range of styles...' and this new album continues in that tradition with LA songbirds Saputo, Starr and Lemmon voicing their interpretations of the jazz, blues, soul and R&B sounds contained in George Kahn's Jazz & Blues Revue, a vocal jazz statement that begs to be heard. With great vocals, superb instrumentals and an exciting selection of music, this is vocal jazz at its best."

    - Edward Blanco review of Jazz & Blues Revue, AllABoutJazz.com November 2014

  • “This team (The Jazz & Blues Revue) should make every vocal group in NYC quiver with fear if they ever decided to leave the land of In N Out Burgers for the land of Lombardi’s. Unique, yet universal.”

    - George Harris, JazzWeekly.com April 201

  • “If (Kahn) comes out of a school of the piano trio tradition, it must be the school of Ahmad Jamal. His sound is, like Jamal's, a straight ahead, unpretentious sea of sparkling effervescence, ebullient rhythms and life affirming positivity.”

    - Dan Mclenaghan review of Straight Ahead, AllAboutJazz.com March 2018

  • “The Modern Jazz Quartet's blend of vibraphone and piano is, of course, much different from Kahn's blend of his piano and Pat Kelly's guitar. But the approach—the equality of instrumental input, the seamless collectivity of the sound, the classy and refined beauty—is the same.”

    - Dan Mclenaghan review of DreamCatcher, AllAboutJazz.com November 2020

  • "Culver City has been lucky to have George Kahn in his many iterations including Jazz and Blues Revue, his trio and quartet, grace the stages of Culver City. His band brings professionalism and style to our community and is a crowd favorite for all our events no matter the demographics. If you are looking for the cool edge and some great music, George Kahn is the the best choice."
